Thanks for the news Andrew, myself and many others look forward to an EP release this year!

That said, I don't think Wolfmother actually needs a proper studio to record anything. Take a look at Back Round, that sounded like it was professionally done, if you can keep that standard it would be great.

I'm sure many others have already said this, but it would be absolutely great to hear these tracks recorded:

    1. Monolith
    2. Inside The Mountain
    3. Violence Of The Sun (original)

I believe Violence Of The Sun will sound amazing when recorded, just take a look at In The Castle and the similarities between one of the riffs (according to Ian this wasn't done on purpose )

I'm personally not a big fan of acoustic albums, although a 2nd disc with just acoustic recordings would be nice (similar to Foo Fighters - In Your Honor) so the focus should remain on the rock songs.

    I hope you're reading this

    Cheers

While I love both albums, the debut record was epic. Dimension, White Unicorn, Colossal, Vagabond... whatever you can do to duplicate that sound is fine with me, brother.

Also love the idea of including some live/acoustic versions on the EP as they are not always made readily available. Example -- Badly want the acoustic version of Cosmic Egg but don't own it because it's only available when purchasing the entire digital album on iTunes. Only noticed that AFTER I had already bought deluxe album in stores. Bummer.

    Love from Toronto ...

Either way I'd be over the moon...This band is purely inspirational to the music I rite. Seen yous last year in Dublin and us were truely amazing. Anyways EP or Album...hmm I'd say E.P soon followed by an album. Quickly record and E.P which will help keep Wolfmother fans occupied for the time being while us record ur 3rd album. I think the E.P should be recorded raw and then us can see what it sounds like and if its good do the same for the album. If not well least us give it a try and can get bacck to the studio for recordings. Either way I doubt Wolfmother fans will be disappointed after all weve stuck with us this long.

But please inlclude Monolith, Inside The Mountain and the old Violence of the Sun in some way shape or form...Listened to them alot before Cosmic Egg was released and thought there great songs

Hey, I'm all for the EP and honestly I'm sure I'll love it no matter where you record. I don't really have a preference. Hope this plan works out. Can't wait to hear the new stuff soon!

In my opinion, I agree with a lot of the other posts, you should definitely do the recording in a similar way to the the way you did the first album. In the first album I tended to feel abit more emotion, whereas in the second album there was only a handfull of songs that sounded like they had real emotion, these were white feather, In the morning and in the castle.
    I hope I could help

To be honest, I'd prefer a classic studio album. I guess I'll sound a bit boring but if they are going to make a new record I want it to sound as good as possible, so I can tell the difference when I'm "experiencing Wolfmother live". Anyway, it doesn't really matter, an album is an album, we'll all enjoy it even if they record it with an old MP3...

For f**ks sake -- like I could possibly choose between the two available options. Or offer anything to such a proposition other than a load of arse-kissing followed by a fat cliche.

So, in the fine tradition of Pat Travers, I say go for what you know!

However, if you're truly seeking direction, here's the full action plan:

    1. Book a cool rehearsal space and thrash out the pre-production kinks for a stint of pro time in the Big Box, but keep the tape rolling and commit the lot to magnetic medium. There's the bonus disc, chock full 'o' the best full-throttle moments & bizzare interludes from rehearsals.

    2. Hit the studio with the afterburners wide open and lay down the tightest tracks from the rehearsal sessions in live takes, rather than multi-tracking any momentum into the dirt. Set a firm deadline to keep the intensity up, then pick up the hammer and tongs and bloody get busy.

    3. Based on the results, you walk away from six weeks of woodshedding, rehearsal and follow-on studio sessions with a steaming pile of really cool s**t that'll tweak the lot of us, enough for a double disc package and a few bonus goodies, a proper album and an EP and a wee dram of online fodder as well.

    4. Ignore the lot and do whatever the f**k you want.

I'm wagering you select Option 4. Either way, have a blast -- and get yer arses back to the EU again soon, eh?

Talking Record at home, take it on road, studio version with road updates, double disc album

I think you should record a badass home session, tour it a bit, then record a tight studio version adding in all the fun stuff you develop while touring. Put them out together as a double cd, and everyone wins. I loved the crazy 10 minute version of Mother you played when you last visited Portland. It would be sweet to get that experience in an album.
