E.P / Album for later in 2010
Hello All,
We are considering recording an E.P / Album and releasing it later in the year. So there are two ways of doing this, we are thinking of continuing in the home studio the same way as we did Back Round and Fell Down A Hole, or sticking with the big Producer/Engineer classic studio approach. This next record is definitly going to be a a fast natural process, mixing up live takes and extended instrumental pieces.
Something gets lost in laying down drums then tracking every instrument and layering up a record, it's a safe big album approach though it's hard to find nuaince and expression within these recordings....
Just throwing it out there,
What are the people who listen to Wolfmother looking for, should the creators lead without concern for their audience? Either way I'm interested to hear peoples opinions...

Hey,
Both are very exciting approaches, and making an album in the home studio, mixing up live takes and such, I think, would be great. I think it might give the E.P/album the kind of "rawness" the debut had, you know. On some of the tracks, the takes aren't "perfect", like most of the track on Cosmic Egg are, and I think that gives the album its own charm
I loved the rawness and "not-so-perfect" takes on the debut, and I loved the heavy and epic aspects of Cosmic Egg. That is why I still enjoy your music.
Just my two cents
Long-time Wolfmother fan and listener,

Anything you guys do will be great. But when I think back to the EP Wolfmother it had a certain rough and raw feel about it that made me love your music. It seems more your own if it's not so overly produced. Having said that every band has to evolve, such as the line-up has since that first EP.
I believe the answer isn?t something you can decide; it's more something you need to feel.

Stick with the home studio man, loved the rawness of the self titled, and especially adored the growliness of the EP. To be honest I love a bit of self recording etc. it isn't neccessarily sloppy, but just not "too" perfect, if you get my drift, haha.
Stay cool man, and if you've got some spare time you should totally check these out - http://forums.wolfmother.net/

It's always good to record somewhere with vibes & energy
this im sure you know
P.S.
whats the best way to get backstage at a gig??

wow, would love to hear it.
The most fans like to hear the debut album Wolfmother. Something along the lines of Back Round the most fans would like, because the music is more accepted after the first album.
In my opinion, could record some acoustic songs, could even be an acoustic EP with battery, something like the acoustic era of Led Zeppelin.
And Andrew, because the positioning of the band is "Stock, Ian, Aidan and Will? That would have some influence? I prefer the presentation at the MTV Australia Awards: Aidan, Stock, Ian and now Will-drums: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AEmN724ieh0

You Already Know The Answer
Hi Andrew (not really buying this is actually you, but whatever),
You have the gift of expression and passion in your music, and it seems the best way too continue to nurture this is to work in a way that is most conducive to your overall sense of 'being'....a place that makes the four of you feel connected and free and not 'to in your heads'.
Absolutely do not consider your audience in anyway! We don't matter, you do. Please continue to be raw, pure, natural and above all, vulnerable.
Whatever you do, I'm excited to hear it. Your music touches me to the core. And, if you ever decide to hire drummer #4 I'm game ;-)
Cheers.

EP... Album... Anything as long as it comes out soon!!! lol Ok I say EP, cuz you can make it quicker and have a good, raw (just not sloppy) feel to it. LOVE the idea of mixing in live and instrumental recordings! It sounds like you know what you want to do... DO IT!!

Perhaps off topic, but maybe not...
When Cosmic Egg was coming out there was talk of 8 Hendrix covers to be released as b-sides or an EP, and to my knowledge only 2 have been circulating. Just curious if there was an update on this project. Maybe these are already out there and I just haven't been paying attention.
Thanks!
